GENDER AFFIRMING VOICE MODIFICATION THERAPY (feminization, non-binary or masculinization) typically consists of THREE Phases of Treatment. Everyone progresses through the phases at different rates and each program typically consists of a combination of Speech/Voice Therapy with your Clinician and continued vocal lessons with our Vocal Coach.
There are numerous factors that determine each individual's length of treatment, thus determining the overall cost. Several factors are in your control such as compliance and consistency in the program. Other factors are out of our control such as the amount of vocal change desired and the responsiveness of your oral and vocal muscles, a person's cognition, structural issues to address during therapy and more.
Phase 1- Awareness Stage – Developing New Muscle and Vocal Patterns
This phase focuses on:
1. Developing new muscle patterns

3. The elimination of negative behavioral oral habits
4. Stretching & breathing exercises
5. Identification of specific vocal goals

1. Implementing and Integrating new muscle patterns
2. Lingual, labial and mandibular range of motion, strength and stability

This type of therapy requires you to "show up" for yourself every day and do your best, otherwise you will not get your money's worth and your symptoms or conditions will likely recur. You must be actively ready to begin the change in yourself and commit to the program. Stopping after 12-weeks will not provide a good long term outcome. This is a health and lifestyle choice because you will be doing exercises everyday, and bringing new awareness to oral/vocal patterns that you have had your entire life. The most important changes are the changes that happen at home in between sessions and it is our goal to support you in incorporating gradual changes and using research-based techniques to help you reach your goals.
Gender Affirming Voice Modification Treatment does not offer a quick fix, however with consistency and dedication, it can be highly effective in achieving your personal vocal goals and the results can absolutely be life changing. It can also be a non-invasive alternative to surgery. The best results are obtained when the exercises are done daily. Therapy generally lasts between 3 and 6 months, followed by sessions with our vocal coach (as needed) to help achieve generalization and retention. The program can be modified to fit your schedule. Appointments range from weekly to monthly.
Gender Affirming Voice Modification Therapy has been shown to be life changing, however due to the many factors that influence these patterns, outcomes are not guaranteed. Everyone progressed through the phases of treatment at different rates. It is important to recognize that even when therapy outcome is positive, there may be a period of time before goals are achieved. Effectiveness further depends on the patients’ maintenance of habits and exercise program developed during therapy.
CONTINUED VOICE WORK
While, you may not require therapy for longer than 12-weeks, the skills will need to be practiced for a year or longer to habituate, generalize and become natural. You will need to continue protecting your new voice form damage.
Once we mutually decide that you have made enough progress to graduate from therapy, you will be referred to our amazing Vocal Coach (VocalVirtuosos.com), to continue refining and perfecting your voice skills and helping you to maintain your achieved voce goals.

NOTE:
Choosing an experienced Speech Pathologist who works with vocal therapy and transgender people will make the difference in your treatment success. Many healthcare providers can help you adjust your pitch. It’s important, though, to find a provider who can tailor treatment to the changes you’d like to hear so your voice expresses your gender. These changes may involve more than changing how high or low your voice is. You may not know what changes feel right inside of your body when you’re speaking without the guidance of a specialized provider who’s attuned to your needs. Work with a provider who understands how voice and gender identity are related.
